Once upon a time

Once a man committed a crime:
He stole something at that time.
Then the police were on his trail.
The man was spotted by a friar.

The latter took him to his monastery cell
And treated his wounds very well.
When the police came after their prey,
The monk did not betray.

Since then the man often prayed
And both souls were saved.
